Health and fitness is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. However in this country we have 300,000 over weight or obese children. Junk food diets, the attraction of television, computers, and video games and a reduction in the number of hours of physical education in schools have all added to this epidemic of childhood obesity and health related problems. Obesity is directly linked to many serious illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, depression, stroke, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer. The lack of physical activity is one of the biggest threats facing young people today, because unhealthy children turn into unhealthy adults. Firebirds is a fitness club for children, which provides facilities, programs and services that empower children by helping them acquire the skills, confidence and positive self image needed to become healthy young adults. Firebirds children have so much fun as they gain strength, balance, co-ordination, fine and gross motor proficiency, agility, flexibility and social skills. We have designed children's fitness classes that are fun and enables inactive children to boast their stamina and confidence and helps active children to improve their muscle tone and co-ordination. More importantly at firebirds all exercises are specially designed to be safe for all muscles, joints and bones. Combining regular physical activity with a healthy diet is the key to a healthy lifestyle. By understanding the importance of being physically active, we can instill fun and healthy habits to children that will last a life time. Classes are starting in September and will take place every Saturday morning in Phoenix Total Well Being. Classes will cost €5. For more information contact Steven Mullen in Phoenix Total Well Being or check out this website in August. |
